Stanley's Big Adventure - Part II

"What Could Possibly Go Wrong?"

We hit the road at 9:30 AM this morning after a 72-hour flurry of packing and goodbyes. Our new renters, including tenant cat Pappi, all are moved in. Sophie is still hiding under the bed but she’ll come around. We made it as far as a Cracker Barrel in Scranton PA, hometown of Joe Biden and of course Dunder Mifflin.

A bit of a rough road coming over I-88. A tally of what has broken or bent so far:

  • The hot water tank leaked. I think I got that sorted after a few attempts.

  • The handle on one of our cupboards fell off.

  • The dinette table broke. Not fixable without new parts. Went to Walmart and secured it with two C-clamps.

  • The liquor cabinet bounced out from under the table all the way into the hallway. Miraculously there were no major casualties.

  • The refrigerator wouldn’t switch to propane gas mode for a bit, but again persistence paid off there too.

  • I still feel groggy and out of it. Either due to a 2-day hangover from partying with Feigs on Friday night, long-covid, the road, or undiagnosed old age.

So a typical day.

But the future is bright. Tomorrow morning at 7AM I will be tucking into a A Big Barrel Trucker's Breakfast Plate Special (sausage, bacon, ham, biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs, and hash browns with coffee) at The Barrel. Because I am a trucker. We are on our way to Washington DC where we will have a quick visit with Alex and Steph. If we have time, we may join the Trucker Convoy and snarl a little traffic. We're gonna vent our frustration, if we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse. Then it’s on to Charleston, Savannah and eventually down to Key West aka Margaritaville, where if any wheels still remain on, they will likely come off at that point.

We do hope you will come along the journey with us at Ramble On.

Also, in case you haven’t checked it out yet, Ramble On Adventure Institute is now live. This is where you can go to get more insight and information about travelling topics. There is philosophy, answers to common questions, tips, lists, gear and destination guides to help you create your own adventures.

Rick Steves says he just wishes he had a site anywhere near this good. Really, he said that. Please have a look when you can.

Okay, I need to rest up for breakfast. We’ll be in touch.
