A real log fire is the best, and what you want if you only get to camp for a few nights a year. But when you are out on the road for long stretches, wood can be a challenge. It's expensive: often up to $7 per small little bundle that lasts about 15 minutes. You have to transport it and it's messy. Wood can carry pests so you should never transport it more than a few miles from the source.
